I Don’t Like the Yodeling, Though

April 15th, 2010

I started using Yahoo! while I was in high school, and I’ve kind of just stuck with it for years. I’ve used other services in the past, and while they did their jobs just fine, Yahoo! has remained the one I always come back to. Besides just being incredibly easy to use, I like the format of the classic version. I’m not really fond of some of the changes they’ve made, but I do appreciate the fact that I can keep what I’m familiar and comfortable with. The only downside I would say is that the spam filters aren’t all that you could ask for, but really, how hard is it just to delete stuff? Problem solved.

Types of Swords Used In Modern Fencing

April 13th, 2010

There are three basic types of fencing swords in modern fencing; the epée, the foil, and the sabre. Each of these three types corresponds to a different style of fencing. Foils are the most commonly seen type of fencing sword in modern fencing; they are long and thin and have no cutting edge, being used solely for thrusts and stabs. Like all fencing swords, the end of the foil is blunted and rounded to prevent injury, and the participants wear padded clothing. An epée, like the rapier, has no cutting edge and is used with thrusts and stabs. Its blade is triangular, and as a whole it is much heavier than the foil. The sabre is long and thin, looking much like the epée and foil, but it has an edge and that edge can be used as well as the points to score points in a fencing match.

Ugh

April 12th, 2010

I used one of those phone dating/chat lines once, and it may be fine for some, but definitely was a train wreck for me. I guess I was bored (this was years ago, so naïve as well) and after talking to someone for a couple of weeks, decided that meeting in public wasn’t a horrible idea. Well, we met up, and he was not at all what he said (surprising, right?), which would have been fine, but it was all just too much. He was probably 15 to 20 years older than me (which I’m not into), slightly balding with a 90’s rocker cut (think Bret Michaels, but not), and tried to kiss me several times. After trying to be nice for a little bit and not just blow him off, I ended up doing just that.

Honesty

April 9th, 2010

I totally appreciate honesty in people, and it’s a quality that most of the people who are in my life and close to me share. I admit, like everyone else, sometimes complete honesty is a little overwhelming, and can make me feel pretty crappy, but in the end, when I really think over what is said, I appreciate knowing someone cares about me enough to tell me what they really think, not just what I want to hear. Honesty is a hard trait to find in people, though, for quite a few reasons. I think some people are afraid of being brutally honest because of what people will think about them, and some people really don’t want to hear it sometimes.

A Brief Recommendation for Anyone Looking For New Cell Service

April 6th, 2010

I’ve been a loyal customer of AT&T since early 2006, and I’ve been quite pleased with the service I’ve gotten. I first of all liked the fact that I didn’t have to pay up front to receive my cell phone (which isn’t to say I didn’t pay a deposit; I had to, but the cell phone charge was applied to my bill), and every time I’m eligible for an upgrade, the process of getting a new phone is relatively simple and low-cost, with nothing paid that day. Customer service through AT&T is quite good, as well, and every time I have a problem, a phone rep or store rep is always willing to take the time to help me fix it. Sometimes, I have trouble with reception in my house, but that’s only been since I moved, so I suspect it’s just the building.

Disappointed Again

April 1st, 2010

My grandmother knows how much I love to read, and for Christmas she sent me a Dean Koontz novel I didn’t have yet, “Your Heart Belongs to Me”. I have been a fan of his work since I was a pre-teen, but over the past few years, my love of his novels has definitely decreased. I was once again disappointed with this one, which started out seemingly having a supernatural, suspenseful theme to it, but ended up being a morality lesson. I don’t know. I imagine some people quite like his “new” style, but I prefer his older books, like “Watchers”.

Importance of Being Me

March 29th, 2010

When someone asks me what is most important to me, my answer most times is the following. Self respect. If I can’t stand the man in the mirror who is looking back at me then all is for naught. Self respect takes a long time to gain and such a short time to lose with bad decisions. I don’t believe any relationships, jobs, etc. will go well in our lives if we first don’t like ourselves. I could care less about peer pressure or political correctness. I believe in going with a gut instinct that has served me well throughout my life, while being as considerate as I can be of others.

Love Your Job?

March 24th, 2010

My favorite all time job has definitely been working as a Team Leader in a company that produces double hung windows for consumers. It is impossible to find a job that is perfect but this job while not perfect was very balanced.  I loved this job because there was physical activity combined with the need for mental acuity which was challenging. I also liked it because the management respected its employees and backed up its team leaders in decision making processes.

When you can have physical and mental exercise, great bosses, and good working hours, combined with fair pay that sounds like a pretty good job to me.

Tea Party Fun Times

March 22nd, 2010

I recently attended a Tea Party and I had so much fun. The day dawned with a drenching rain and my husband and I just improvised and bought ponchos to keep us dry.

We arrived at the Tea Party and gave our names to the parking lot attendants so that we could be parked and then we ventured into the mass of people sharing like concerns about their country. There were various speakers on subjects such as our economy, health care reform, and our Constitutional rights. But the best part of the day was the re- enactment of the Declaration of Independence which brought home to me with clarity the desires of our forefathers and their vision for America.

The World Of Sport

March 20th, 2010

Every four years the world’s greatest athletes compete in the Olympics. At every Olympic games competitors run faster, jump higher and create more amazing records. The Olympic ideals of honesty, sportsmanship and pride flourish alongside these inspiring performances and spill over into the world of sport at every level. At the original Olympics in Ancient Greece winners received an olive wreath. Modern Olympic champions receive a gold medal. The Olympic flame is carried by a torch all over the world by a series of runners from Olympia in Greece to the Games arena. Martial arts such as boxing, judo, fencing etc are competition items in Olympics. Protective fencing gear includes the foil, epée and sabre. All of them have protective tips but contestants still wear strong clothes and a face mask to stop them from coming to any harm.
